This year, Wheelock celebrated World Book Day is style.

The children had great fun dressing up in either their pyjamas or as a book character. We celebrated by holding a whole school assembly to share our outfits. There were some wonderful creations whether these be homemade or shop bought. It was lovely to see so many different themes: Harry Potter, fairy tales, animals and many more!

During the day, the children took part in several different book themed activities. They created book marks and designed book covers. They also went on a hunt around the school to find book characters. We also had a whole school focus on 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. Some of the children wrote speech bubbles about why the crayons quit, others wrote letters for a new equipment explaining why they are quitting. For example, glue sticks quit as their lids were not put on properly and chairs quite because they were trumped on!!

For the first time, this year, we held a book swap. The children brought in to school a book which they no longer wanted. They then swapped it for another book. It meant that most of the children took home a 'new' book along with their book day token. They enjoyed seeing what they could trade.

Our favourite part of the day was sharing books with other children. Year 5 and 6 read with Year 1 and reception whilst year 4 read with Year 2.

It was a wonderful day centered around books!
