At Wheelock, we place great importance on a curriculum which develops the whole child, equipping them to live and flourish in their world.
Our curriculum includes coverage of the National Curriculum and equips children with the knowledge, skills and understanding for life beyond Wheelock. Subject leaders have worked hard to make sure that our curriculum is focused on the development of children’s knowledge and skills across all primary subjects with the aim of ensuring pupils are ready for the next stage of their learning and beyond.
The curriculum is complemented by high-quality teaching within the core subjects of reading, writing and maths. We use a number of published schemes to enhance our delivery of key skills.in some subject areas although our teaching approach in all subject areas is tailored to the needs of the individual child,
Our curriculum includes not only the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum, but also a wide range of enrichment and extra-curricular activities that the school delivers in order to enrich life experiences of the children. These include things such as:
- Engagement with Unicef's Rights Respecting agenda
- Delivery of No Outsiders curriculum
- Residential visits for Years 4 and 6
- Forest School learning sessions in all year groups
- Visits to educational centres such as museums and historical sites
- Theatre visits
- A range of sporting clubs and competitions
- Visits from specialists such as authors and musicians
When children leave our school at the end of Year Six they will be equipped with the full range of knowledge, skills and vocabulary that enables them to become lifelong learners that enjoy their learning and who can work through challenges.
