Wheelock Primary aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. We are very pleased to announce that we have been awarded the second stage of Unicef UK’s Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA), Silver: Rights Aware.
We are always striving to create the best possible learning environment for our children at Wheelock. Achieving this award shows that we are committed to promoting and realising children’s rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school.
We are extremely proud to announce that following our recent accreditation meeting from a UNICEF representative, we are now officially a Silver Rights Respecting School. This award recognises the hard work of our children, teaching team and all members of the Wheelock Primary community who are ensuring that children are both receiving their rights and understand them.
Our assessor was particularly pleased with our children's attitudes to taking action for other children and being able to cite examples from the Convention of Rights of the Child. Children can explain how duty bearers at Wheelock Primary support them and said that 'their school feels like a rights respecting place to be'.
Acheiving this award in such a short period of time, following achieving Bronze status in February 2022, emphasises the commitment Wheelock Primary has to developing their Rights Respecting environment.
Well done everyone! Now to start working towards our gold award!
