School Council

Wheelock Primary School Council is made up of pupil representatives from class. The children are chosen by their peers through a democratic vote. As a school we value the thoughts, ideas and opinions of all our children and the School Council is one way of ensuring the voice of the children is heard and has an impact on the development of the school. Regular class council meetings give children the opportunity to raise any suggestions or concerns with their school council representative, who then brings the ideas to the school council meetings. The school council meet once a fortnight (or more often if they have a project on the go) with Mrs Byrne. During the meetings the children discuss any issues or suggestions brought from their class councils and also plan regular whole-school events and projects.

Last year, the council organised and judged a number of house competitions and planned fundraising events for charity. During a recent school safeguarding review, members of the school council met with our visitors and were able to talk very confidently and clearly about all the things we do in school to keep the children safe.

This year's school council are:

Woodpeckers:  Harrison

Robins:  Rory

Owls:   Jessica

Kingfishers:   Daniel B

Sandpipers:   Liberty

Swans:   Lola

Eagles:   Alex

Kestrels:   Ben M

Hawks:   Jack

The initial phases of our outdoor area development project are now complete!

Thanks to a lottery grant of £10,000 from awards for all, a new all-weather surface has been laid all around the trim trail and upto the outdoor classroom, giving the children far more room to play whatever the weather.

With support from the FOWs, we have also completed the all-weather path around the edge of the field which gives the children access to the space all year round.

The FOWs are continuing to raise money to develop the areas around the path.  In particular, we are looking forward to purchasing an outdoor theatre area for the children to perform and a climbing wall. We hope to continue to develop the learning and adventure resources along the path in the coming year.

Autumn Competition:  Well done for all of the fabulous entries we recieived to advertise our new indoor area for playtime.  The School Councillors enjoyed looking through all of the fantastic entries.  We choose three winners:  Poppy Hallam (Hawks), Cameron Coats (Kingfishers) and Esme Trenbirth (Swans).  As well as receiving a small prize, each of the winning posters will be proudly displayed on Kestrels door.

Litter Picking - During autumn term, school council representatives have been busy organising a litter picking team to help to keep our school grounds in tip-top condition.  This proved to be very popular across the school.  The rota for litter pickers is on display outside Woodpeckers window..  Please collect the equipment from Kestrels classroom during afternoon playtime.

Super Learners - Don't forget to take a look at the 'Super Learner' display we have created using the work you completed in class. We have really enjoyed looking through all the posters and pictures and chosing which ones to share with the whole school. Wheelock pupils have shown that they know how to be super learners for themselves and to support those around them to be their best!
