Creative Curriculum

At Wheelock we are very proud of our unique, creative curriculum. We work hard to deliver topic based learning that weaves together the requirements of the national curriculum with our school aims and values and the interests and experiences of each cohort of children. Topics evolve and change each year, keeping lessons new and exciting both for the children and teachers.

This topic based apporach provides a context for learning - the children are hooked and engaged by the theme and their work has meaning and a context that makes it real and worthwhile.

Each year, in the Spring Term, we have a whole school topic where all classes take a common theme and interpret it in their own way. This finishes with a whole-school celebration day when we are joined by parents and carers and the children have opportunities to try out a range of activites and challenges linked to the theme.

Our drivers

At Wheelock our learning is underpinned by and taught through our four curriculum drivers; Creativity, Challenge, Individuality and Community. Our drivers and values are threaded through our school life and supported by the children, staff and community.

As a school we ensure that our curriculum gives our children the best outcomes academically and also as an individual, giving them skills to hold on to throughout their lives.

Steps in learning

At Wheelock, we follow the National Curriculum for Maths, English and Science. Each year group has their own 'Step' with specific learning objectives that they will cover and aim to achieve by the end of each academic year. Please click on the subject links below to find out more:

We have also recently developed our own curriculum to cover the aims of the foundation curriulum subjects with strong links to our school ethos and drivers.  Please click on "Wheelock Curriculum" below to find the objectives for each key stage linked to our curriculum drivers; Creativity, Individuality, Community and and Challenge,  Visit the individual class pages to see how these are being delivered within each class. If you would like any more information, please do not hesitate to come and talk to your child's class teacher.
